Knoxville, Iowa

The Knoxville (Iowa) Plant of Hormel Foods Corporation (NYSE:HRL) announced today that it will donate $3,000 to the Helping Hands Food Pantry, a local charitable organization distributing food to Knoxville’s hungry families.

This donation supplements the company’s participation in the annual Marion County KNIA/KRLS food drive. In 2010, the 145-person plant donated more than 10,000 pounds of food to support the effort.

“Helping Hands Food Pantry does a great job to feed the families in need in Knoxville, and we are thrilled to contribute to their efforts again this year,” said Troy M. Hawkshead, plant manager, Hormel Foods Knoxville Plant. “Our employees and the company are excited to contribute to the food drive to continue help fighting hunger in our community.”

This donation from the Knoxville Plant is part of the commitment at Hormel Foods to nourish the hungry in the United States one community at a time. The company is giving funds to more than 16 U.S. manufacturing facilities to share with nonprofits in their respective communities to fight hunger.

Hormel Foods has also contributed to the “Mapping an End to Hunger in Greater Des Moines” project through the Des Moines Area Religious Council (DMARC). DMARC is an interfaith organization that provides a common means of responding to basic human needs and serves as a liaison between member congregations to accomplish good in the Greater Des Moines community. Since 2009, DMARC has researched the hunger problem in Polk County, Iowa, with a focus on understanding the hunger problem in the community so that a plan can be developed to find a solution in the most effective manner. On Sept. 13, 2011, Hormel Foods announced a donation of $110,000 to this effort.

“We were ecstatic about the feedback we received from our plant managers, employees and the organizations that received hunger donations last year,” said Julie H. Craven, vice president of corporate communications at Hormel Foods. “Supporting local efforts focused on ending hunger in these plant communities is helping to make a difference where our employees live and work.”

In addition to its hunger relief efforts in these communities, Hormel Foods is committed to helping those in need throughout the world. For a second year, its “On Our Way to Ending Hunger” program is continuing to focus on collaborating with retailers, nonprofits and the government on hunger relief efforts; nourishing the hungry in the United States and abroad; and motivating individuals and corporate partners to take action to fight hunger.
