Hechos con Amor™ - Made with Love™
No ethnic cuisine has penetrated American culture like Mexican food. From fast food joints to truly authentic Mexican restaurants, it's everywhere. But few stop to think how Mexican cuisine originated from the blending of two cultures. During the Spanish conquests in the Americas, typical European food (rice, olive oil, beef and garlic) combined with native Aztec ingredients and became today's Mexican cuisine that we all know and love.
As Mexican cuisine blends Spanish and Aztec cultures, Herdez® products blend the philosophies and traditions of two clans, Hernández Del Castillo and Hernández Pons. Strong family traditions often set the tone for generations to follow, and the values upon which the Herdez brand was founded are still the model lived by today.
In 1914, these families built their Mexican cuisine empire upon quality and trust. Their ever-expanding, loyal customer base today reflects the same values. "Made with love," is the Herdez philosophy, signifying the commitment that every Herdez product is crafted from the freshest, finest ingredients, according to the highest standard of quality.
After nearly a century, more than 42 authentic food products are offered in the United States. Herdez salsa is the number one brand of imported salsa consumed in the United States today.
Varieties Include:
Salsa -
In the United States, no single element of Mexican food is as revered as salsa. Salsa is a great addition to tacos, eggs, potatoes and nearly everything in between. Herdez salsa uses the finest fresh ingredients, including robust tomatoes, handpicked Serrano peppers and fresh cilantro, to create authentic salsa.
To add great Mexican flavor to your favorite dishes, the line of Herdez salsa casera (homemade salsa) in mild, medium or hot; salsa verde (green salsa); salsa taquera (salsa for tacos); or salsa ranchera (a spicy blend of salsa and dried chilies) will take your taste buds south of the border with little extra effort.
- Salsa Taquera—salsa taquera means “salsa for tacos” in Spanish. Made from tomatillos, onions, morita peppers (which are smoked jalapeños), salt and spices, this traditional Mexican recipe is used for tacos or burritos or other similar uses. Its smoky-hot and tangy flavor will make your meals perfectly authentic
- Salsa Verde—Made with tomatillos (green tomatoes) this sweet, fruity salsa goes great with chips or in a variety of dishes. This green salsa is made with fresh tomatillos, onions, Serrano peppers, salt and cilantro
- Salsa Ranchera—Made from fresh pureed tomatoes, onions, vinegar, spices and three different kinds of peppers (jalapeño, ancho and cascabel), this salsa is hot and smoky with a smooth texture. Great for dipping or dishes like huevos rancheros
- Salsa Casera (Also available in medium and hot)— Made from the freshest tomatoes, onions and Serrano peppers and seasoned with salt and cilantro, this simple and authentic salsa is the most popular brand in Mexico. When you taste its natural, bold and fresh tomato flavor, you'll see why
Peppers -
The jalapeño has long been a standard ingredient in Mexican fare. Serranos are peppers that pack a powerful punch. Their potent, robust flavor lends itself well to customary dishes from tacos and enchiladas to pizza, omelets and soups. They also are found on tables as a condiment, adding spice and flavor to meals. Herdez Mexican peppers are known for their distinct “picante” flavor and firm texture.
- Whole and Sliced Jalapeño Peppers—Whole jalapeño peppers marinated in vinegar with onions, carrot slices and basil. Jalapeños are probably the best-known peppers to Americans. They can be added to any dish to enhance its flavor. Jalapeños do not overpower a dish, but only add spiciness. Medium-green in color with rounded tips and a firm texture, jalapeño are not the hottest peppers available, but they certainly do the trick. Use them as a condiment during meals, or in cooking or topping your dishes
- Serrano Peppers—Whole Serrano peppers marinated in vinegar with onions, carrot slices and basil. Serrano peppers are the traditional Mexican hot pepper. Serrano means mountain and these peppers are believed to have originated from the Mexican highlands and mountainous regions. Dark green in color and shaped like a candle-flame, these peppers have a very firm texture and are very hot. Use them as a condiment during meals or in cooking or topping your dishes
Fruits And Vegetables -
There are a few fruits and vegetables that have become intertwined with Mexican cuisine. Mangos and guavas grow plentifully in Mexico and are naturally delicious. While the spicy marinade escabeche might have Spanish roots, our champiñónes en escabeche is decidedly Mexican. These Herdez fruits and vegetables are great for authentic Mexican ingredients or garnishes for your creations.
- Champiñónes en Escabeche—Whole mushrooms marinated in escabeche, which is made up of jalapeños peppers, carrots, onions and spices. These tasty mushrooms can be a quick snack or a condiment with meals or used as a garnish
- Whole Guavas—Whole guavas in syrup. These medium-sized, round, tropical fruits have a soft, creamy texture and a sweet aroma. Very high in vitamin C (almost six times as much as oranges) and fiber, guavas are also a great source of vitamin A. Guavas grow around the globe in tropical regions; Mexico is the second largest producer of guavas in the world
- Sliced Mangos—Sliced mangos in syrup. Delicious mangos are peach-like and their juice is sweet. They have a light orange color that visually enhances many a dish, and their taste has comforting powers—especially for those with delicate stomachs. Mexican mangos date back to the late 1700s when Europeans brought them to the region. Now they are grown all over Mexico and exported around the world. Often called the perfect fruit for its nutritional value, it is one of the most beloved flavors around the globe. Use mangos as a dessert or an ingredient in countless dishes
