As a Hormel Foods Industrial Engineer, you'll be responsible for all the engineering activities in your division—in other words, the whole show—and an all-encompassing variety of tasks and challenges. You'll work to lower costs, increase productivity and maintain overall plant efficiency. You'll investigate specific situations, develop solutions and use both your influence and initiative to get results.
Your ability to keep many balls in the air at the same time will be essential. From process flow requirements and material handling to facilities design and feasibility studies, you'll be involved in all phases of plant systems. Because of the high level of technology in the food industry, you'll be improving Hormel Foods' equipment and creating the breakthrough technology that will keep us number one as a convenience food processor. That will involve justifying through your own research, spending large amounts of money on new equipment—investments that are critical to Hormel Foods' future. You'll have the support of our computer-aided design and simulation programs to get the job done.
Our goal is to develop well-rounded engineers who can be called upon to fill plant Industrial Engineer Management positions. Your experience will include heading up projects involving Production Supervisors and Maintenance Engineers —all as part of becoming a well-rounded engineer.

Maintenance Engineer
Associate Maintenance Engineers have the challenge of modifying, improving and installing high tech equipment as well as supervising maintenance personnel involved with upkeep and repair. Supervisory responsibilities begin immediately following your orientation. You'll need to be a good listener and persuasive leader. That's important because, as a leader, you'll be working with other team players: Production Managers, Quality Assurance Managers and Industrial Engineers.
Planning equipment installation is a critical responsibility, so technical knowledge is also important. Training will be an ongoing process as you advance and become responsible for equipment and technologies in different plants. You'll find our mentoring approach both effective and supportive as you work with and learn from seasoned, experienced plant engineers.
Engineering is a challenging job that requires fresh thinking and creative problem-solving. Associate Maintenance Engineers have the special reward of seeing their ideas come to life—contributions are obvious, self-fulfilling and noticed. From Associate Maintenance Engineer you can become a Project Engineer, a Design Engineer or a Chief Plant Engineer, running an engineering division for one of our flagship facilities.
