Building on 100 Years of Success

Founded in 1891 as a small retail store in downtown Austin, Minn., Hormel Foods has thrived by following the two principles set forth by our founder, George A. Hormel. According to George:

  • Consumer needs should drive product development
  • A high-quality company can be built only by high-quality employees

For more than 100 years, these two principles have guided Hormel Foods, growing it from a humble all-American dream into a multi-billion dollar, Fortune 500 company with more than 18,000 employees. The Hormel Foundation owns enough of our stock to ensure there's no chance of a takeover or buyout. With no worries about our independence, we're moving forward with business. Today we sell more than 2,000 products across five continents. On top of that, we own the number one or number two market share in many of the food categories in which we compete.

Over the years, as consumer wants, needs and lifestyles have changed, Hormel Foods has changed right along with them by creating hundreds of new products. We produced the country's first convenience foods and microwavable meals and have expanded our business into new fields, including ethnic and health-conscious entrees, to name just a few. We were also the first company within our industry to include nutritional and ingredient labeling on our packages.

Our ability to anticipate market changes continues to this day. We're growing through ongoing product development and strategic alliances with other food companies and by developing new international markets. In fact, we now have a major marketing presence in such places as Australia, China, Great Britain, Korea, Japan, Mexico, Poland and Spain, in addition to the United States.

Despite all the changes in our marketplace over the years, the company itself is extremely stable. In more than 100 years, we've had only nine presidents/CEO's, remained largely debt-free and maintained sufficient cash to make sizable acquisitions. Not only that, but we've paid stock dividends to investors every year since 1928.

Now we are looking ahead, and we need intelligent, creative and innovative people to help us move forward through the next 100 years of success. If you want to have a future with us, look through our entry-level openings and apply today.
