Product Description:

SPAM® Family of Products, conveniently packaged in pull-top cans, is made of just a few simple ingredients: ham, pork, sugar, salt, water and a little potato starch. The distinct savory and salty-sweet taste has been enjoyed by millions for generations, making it a pop culture icon that has stood the test of time.

Introduction:

SPAM® luncheon meat was first produced in 1937. It was one of the first convenient, moderately priced and great tasting meat products on the market.

Availability:

The SPAM® Family of Products is produced in two U.S. locations: Austin, Minn. and Fremont, Neb., and in three foreign countries: Denmark, South Korea and the Philippines. The SPAM trademark is registered in more than 100 countries worldwide, and the product is sold in nearly 50 nations, from Andorra to Zimbabwe.

Sales

Sales continue to expand nationally and internationally. Since 1937, more than 7 billion cans have been sold. It is sold on every continent except Antarctica and in more than 99 percent of U.S. grocery stores. In the U.S., three cans of SPAM® are purchased every second. More than 122 million cans of the SPAM® Family of Products are sold worldwide each year, 90 million in the U.S. alone. On a per capita basis, Hawaii, Alaska, Arkansas, Texas and Alabama are the heaviest consumers of SPAM® in the U.S., with Hawaii being the leader.

SPAMMOBILE™

The first SPAMMOBILE™ vehicle, made to resemble a giant SPAM® can, hit the streets in 2001. Three SPAMMOBILE™ vehicles visit more than 150 events and distribute 1.5 million samples each year.

The average retail price of a 12-ounce can of SPAM® is $2.44 or $.20/ounce.
