Jennie-O Turkey Store Partners with NBC’s “The Biggest Loser” Star Kim Lyons to Help Consumers Keep Resolutions in 2008

Keeping Resolutions More Likely Than Winning Lottery This Year
WILLMAR, Minn., (Dec. 26, 2007)— According to a recent survey conducted by Kelton Research, 80 percent of people surveyed think it is more likely they will keep their New Year’s resolution than to win the lottery this year. Of those surveyed, more than half said that their resolutions would focus on living healthy by exercising and eating more healthfully.
In response to this news, Jennie-O Turkey Store, one of the largest turkey processors and marketers in the world, has joined forces with Kim Lyons, fitness trainer and star of NBC’s “The Biggest Loser,” to help consumers keep their resolutions by offering tips and tricks to stay motivated and on track in the coming year.
“We are encouraged to hear that people are optimistic about sticking to their New Year’s resolutions, especially when they relate to healthy living,” Lyons said. “We want to spread the word that committing to a healthy lifestyle does not have to mean drastic changes. Just a few small adjustments can help you stay on the road to a new self.”
Jennie-O Turkey Store and Lyons believe that making simple lifestyle changes, like drinking more water instead of sugary drinks, eating low-fat snacks, getting more exercise and sleep while selecting lean meats can make keeping New Year’s resolutions a breeze.
In fact, according to the survey, Americans are already making purchasing decisions for a healthier lifestyle. Nearly 70 percent regularly choose wheat bread over white, 65 percent choose skim or 2 percent milk over whole, almost half buy diet soda instead of regular and 28 percent opt for turkey-based burgers or bacon instead of other higher calorie protein selections.
Additional tips from Lyons include:
- Make it spicy. Use healthy spices to flavor protein versus using sauces, which can add calories and fat to meals.
- Skip the fancy gym membership. Try a community walking group or fitness program, or be creative and help out a local animal shelter by volunteering to walk the pups.
- Boost your metabolism. The body uses more calories digesting protein than it does breaking down carbohydrates and fats. So be sure to include lean protein, like JENNIE-O TURKEY STORE® turkey strips, in all of your meals and snacks to give your metabolism a boost and keep you feeling fuller longer.
Additionally, Jennie-O Turkey Store and Lyons have created a free downloadable brochure that features delicious recipes and practical lifestyle tips to help consumers stay on track year-round.
“We want to help consumers keep their resolutions by eating nutritious, great tasting meals and leading a balanced lifestyle,” said Cris Eide, Director, Retail Marketing, Jennie-O Turkey Store. “The downloadable brochure offers delicious and easy meal options that provide a wide range of health benefits to help consumers meet their goals.”
