A Good Neighbor
Hormel Foods is committed to reducing the impact our day-to-day operations have on the environment and promoting animal welfare. Our main efforts focus on focus on:
All U.S. manufacturing facilities uphold Hormel Foods’ commitment to compliance and look for ways to reduce their environmental impact.
To track and monitor our progress toward meeting environmental requirements, a web-based Environmental Management System throughout the company is used. This system includes compliance calendars, policy and procedure information and environmental training materials. To go beyond environmental requirements, we established the following goals:
Our Goals
- Water consumption: Reduce water consumption at all 41 U.S. manufacturing facilities by 2 percent per year for five years after benchmarks are established at the beginning of fiscal year 2009.
- Solid waste: Increase recycling to 40 percent by November 2008 and to 50 percent by November 2011. Reduce solid waste to landfills by 2 percent per year through 2012.
- Energy consumption: Reduce energy use at our 41 U.S. manufacturing facilities by 2 percent per year for five years after benchmarks are established at the beginning of fiscal year 2009.
