Being a good corporate citizen means doing our part every day to lift up our communities and to use our size and position as a global branded food company to make a difference through our philanthropic pillars of education, food security and community support. We couldn’t be more excited to kick off our first spotlight charities campaign through our new Inspired Giving platform!
Our Inclusion and Diversity Guiding Coalition has helped us select three organizations for our first spotlight charities campaign to help support education and equity. The featured organizations are: Minorities in Agriculture, Natural Resources and Related Sciences (MANRRS), the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund and the United Negro College Fund (UNCF). More information about each of these nonprofits can be found below. Hormel Foods is providing a donation of $100,000 split equally amongst these organizations. In addition, Hormel Foods will match our team member and retiree donations to these organizations through August 31, 2020.
Thank you in advance for your support. Come on inspired team, let’s make a difference together and support these organizations!
Minorities in Agriculture, Natural Resources and Related Sciences (MANRRS)
MANRRS is a nonprofit, national organization whose mission is to promote academic and professional advancement by empowering minorities in agriculture, natural resources and related sciences. The members of this society pledge to support endeavors that will always foster and promote the agricultural sciences and related fields in a positive manner among ethnic minorities. They also pledge to initiate and participate in activities and programs that will ensure that ethnic minorities will also be involved in and associated with the agricultural sciences and related fields, and to work for the inclusion, achievement and advancement of all people in the agricultural sciences.
NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund
The NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund is a nonprofit legal organization fighting for racial justice. Through litigation, advocacy and public education, the organization seeks structural changes to expand democracy, eliminate disparities and achieve racial justice in a society that fulfills the promise of equality for all Americans. The organization also defends the gains and protections won over the past 75 years of civil rights struggles, and works to improve the quality and diversity of judicial and executive appointments.
UNCF’s mission is to build a robust and nationally-recognized pipeline of under-represented students who, because of UNCF support, become highly-qualified college graduates, and to ensure that their network of member institutions is a respected model of best practice in moving students to and through college. UNCF’s North Star is to increase the total annual number of African American college graduates by focusing on activities that ensure more students are college-ready, enroll in college and persist to graduation. This is done through a three-pillar strategy: positioning member institutions as a viable college option for students and investing in institutional capacity to improve student outcomes; creating transformational support programs to ensure students are enrolling and persisting through college completion; and building awareness of educational attainment and cultivating college-going behaviors within the African American community.
