Hormel Foods Corporation and Brookshire Grocery Co. partnered to donate more than 1,000 Hormel® Cure 81® hams to the Food Bank of Northeast Louisiana to help feed those in need this holiday season.

The two companies are donating $100,000 worth of hams to dozens of food banks and food pantries in communities where Brookshire’s, Super 1 Foods, Spring Market and FRESH by Brookshire’s stores operate.

“The Food Bank of Northeast Louisiana is very grateful for the generous donation of hams that will help so many local families this holiday season,” said Jean Toth, Executive Director of the Food Bank of Northeast Louisiana. “We thank Hormel Foods and Brookshire Grocery Co. for their donation and for providing a holiday ham for people in Northeast Louisiana who are struggling to put food on their table this season. The timing of this gift makes it special, knowing that it will provide low income families with a delicious ham to enjoy for their holiday meal!”

Hormel Foods, Brookshire Grocery Co., and the Food Bank of Northeast Louisiana had a presentation event this morning at the Brookshire’s store located at 4070 Sterlington Rd. in Monroe. Representatives from each organization discussed the significance of this donation in supporting hunger relief in communities supported by the Food Bank.

“We are very proud to again partner with Hormel Foods and to donate $100,000 in hams to nonprofits, including the Food Bank of Northeast Louisiana, within communities that our stores serve,” said Brad Brookshire, Chairman and CEO for Brookshire Grocery Co. “Supporting hunger relief is one of our primary focus areas for charitable giving, and we are thrilled to be able to help provide hams for so many individuals in need this holiday season.”

The makers of the Hormel® Cure 81® brand created the Hormel® Cure 81® Hams for Hunger® program in 1989. The program involves a partnership between Hormel Foods and grocery retailers across the country. Throughout the years, more than $15 million dollars in hams have been donated, feeding tens of thousands of families.

“Hormel Foods is proud to partner with Brookshire Grocery Company to support hunger-relief efforts in the communities served by the company’s stores,” said Megan Elliott Hormel® Cure 81® brand manager at Hormel Foods. “The Hormel® Cure 81® Hams for Hunger® program highlights our long-standing relationship with Brookshire Grocery Company, and we are honored to work together and make such a substantial contribution for those in need.”

Hormel Foods will donate more than 55,000 hams to charities nationwide through the Hormel® Cure 81® Hams for Hunger® program this holiday season.
