Swiss American Sausage (Lathrop, Calif.) and the Stockton (Calif.) Plant of Hormel Foods Corporation (NYSE:HRL) recently donated $20,000 to the Second Harvest Food Bank to help fight hunger.

“We are thrilled to partner with Second Harvest to contribute to their efforts to feed those in need in our area,” said Jerry A. Parker, plant manager, Stockton Plant. “Our employees and the company are excited to continue fighting hunger in our community.”

“Thank you to our employees whose hard work and commitment to excellence make it possible for our company to give back to our community,” added Edward Finnegan, plant manager at Swiss American Sausage. “We are proud to help continue the great work they are doing to feed families in need.”

The Second Harvest Food Bank has served the hungry in the San Joaquin and Stanislaus Counties since 1974 through their direct-service programs and collaboration with large partner nonprofit agencies operating at more than 700 different food distribution sites. Partner agencies include shelters, pantries, soup kitchens, children’s programs, senior meal sites and residential programs. The food bank also helps individuals find food assistance programs and learn about proper nutrition.

For the fourth consecutive year, Hormel Foods is giving funds to U.S. manufacturing facilities to share with nonprofits in their respective communities to fight hunger. In 2013, Hormel Foods donated $220,000 to local hunger relief organizations in more than 20 U.S. communities where it has manufacturing facilities. In 2014, the company will provide 39 plant locations with funds to help local organizations fight the hunger needs specific to each community.

“Hormel Foods has been able to help our plants relieve hunger in their local communities for the past three years,” said Julie H. Craven, vice president of corporate communications at Hormel Foods. “Because of the success we’ve had with this program, and as part of our ongoing commitment to helping fight hunger in the areas where we live and work, we are further expanding these donations to a total of 39 locations.”

Hormel Foods is helping those in need both in the United States and internationally through its On Our Way to Ending Hunger program. The company collaborates with retailers, nonprofits and the government on hunger relief efforts; nourishes the hungry in the U.S. and abroad; and motivates individuals and corporate partners to take action to fight hunger.
