Let’s be honest, sometimes a PB&J just hits the spot, no matter how ‘grown-up’ you are. It’s salty, sweet, soft (or crispy if you’re team toasted bread), satisfying and oh, so simple. But what about those times your grown-up tastebuds want something a little more sophisticated? Maybe you’re craving something with a little more spice? Or maybe you’re ready for some new flavor combinations! Either way, we’ve got some ideas for you.

Our crew of culinary experts went beyond the typical PB&J flavors to give you inspiration for a new approach to your old favorite. These recipes even incorporate some of our favorite Hormel Foods products for delectable and indulgent combinations to elevate your PB&J game. We’ve created a collection of some of our favorite PB&J recipes, ranging from a spicy kick to sweet and creamy and a few in between.

Bacon, Peanut Butter and Banana Sandwich

16 slices HORMEL® BLACK LABEL® Cherrywood Bacon
4 tablespoons SKIPPY® creamy peanut butter
4 slices bread
1 banana, peeled and sliced
4 tablespoons butter

Directions

  1. Prepare bacon according to package directions; drain.

  2. Spread peanut butter on 2 slices bread. Top peanut butter with banana slices and bacon slices. Cover with remaining bread slices.

  3. Spread outsides of sandwiches with butter. Cook in large skillet on medium heat 3 minutes on each side or until golden brown. Serves 2.

Pork, Peanut Butter and Jelly Panini

Ingredients

 
½ cup WELCH’S® Concord Grape Jelly
pint SKIPPY® Creamy Peanut Butter Spread No Sugar Added
½ cup plus 1 tablespoon butter, softened and divided
1 tablespoon pure maple syrup
(12-ounce) can SPAM® Classic, sliced into 9 slices
12 slices thick-cut artisan raisin walnut bread
1 (8-ounce) package cream cheese, softened
9 slices Candied Bacon; recipe follows, cut in half
Suggested garnishes: Powdered sugar, additional pure maple syrup, chocolate covered candied bacon and strawberries
Candied Bacon
½ cup brown sugar
¼ cup plus 2 tablespoons lager beer
1 (12-ounce) package HORMEL® BLACK LABEL® Premium Cherrywood Bacon
Melted chocolate, if desired

Directions

  1. In small saucepan over high heat combine jelly, peanut butter spread, 1 tablespoon butter, and maple syrup. Bring to boil. Reduce to a simmer. Cook 8 to 10 minutes, stirring constantly, until mixture is reduced and thickened. Set aside to cool.

  2. In large skillet over medium-high heat cook SPAM® Classic slices 3 to 5 minutes, or until browned.

  3. Spread cream cheese on each slice of bread. On each of 6 slices layer 3 half pieces bacon and 1 ½ slices prepared SPAM® Classic. Spread with spoonful of cooled peanut butter jelly mixture. Top each with remaining bread slices. Butter outsides of sandwiches.

  4. Heat panini press or panini grill pan. Cook sandwiches 5 to 7 minutes or until bread is toasted and filling is warmed. Serve sandwiches with suggested garnishes.

For the Candied Bacon

  1. Heat oven to 400°F. Line a large, rimmed baking sheet with foil. Place baking rack on prepared sheet.

  2. In small bowl, combine brown sugar and beer. Lay bacon on rack. Bake 10 minutes. Brush both sides of bacon with brown sugar mixture. Bake 10 minutes. Continue to baste and bake bacon 20 to 25 minutes, or until bacon is crisped and glazed. Remove bacon from rack.

  3. Brush or dip pieces of bacon in melted chocolate, if desired. Let cool on parchment or waxed paper.

Peanut Butter and Jalapeno Sandwich

3 tablespoons jalapeno pepper jelly
Sliced jalapeno pepper, to taste
3 tablespoons SKIPPY® Creamy Peanut Butter
2 slices rustic bread
1 tablespoon butter

Directions

  1. In small bowl, mix pepper jelly and jalapeno slices . Spread mixture on 1 side of 1 bread slice.

  2. Spread peanut butter on 1 side of remaining bread slice. Press together. Spread half of the butter over top slice of bread.

  3. Heat grill pan to medium. Place sandwich buttered side down in pan. Spread remaining butter over top slice of bread. Grill sandwich 3 to 5 minutes on each side, or until sandwich is golden brown.

Blackberry Nut Butter Brie Melt

1 tablespoon butter
2 slices brioche bread
2 tablespoons blackberry jam
2-4 slices Brie cheese
2 tablespoons JUSTIN’S® Vanilla Almond Butter
5-6 fresh blackberries

Directions

  1. Prepare panini grill for medium heat.

  2. Butter one side of each bread slice. Place bread, butter side down.

  3. Top one bread slice with jam and Brie slices. Top remaining bread slice almond butter and blackberries. Assemble sandwich.

  4. Grill, 2 to 4 minutes or until golden and cheese is melted.
