People | Pride of the Jersey

Tim Hibdon receives jersey for second time.

Given the abundance of Hormel Foods team members who exemplify the company’s Cultural Beliefs and excel at their jobs, it’s not easy to be chosen for the Pride of the Jersey award once, let alone twice.

But that’s exactly what happened to Tim Hibdon. He was the first recipient at Osceola (Iowa) Food for 2022, five years after receiving the honor in 2017. In spite of that, earning the right to pull on the hockey-style shirt to the cheers of co-workers is anything but old hat.

“It was just as exciting this time,” he says.

Tim was honored during a Sustainability Best of the Best presentation, in which teams explain how they have succeeded in moving the needle on the Hormel Foods corporate social responsibility platform. As one of the plant’s engineering techs, he oversees the environmental regulations and safety management process.

After finishing school, Tim had several jobs before signing on with the Hormel Foods location. The company is close to his birthplace and current home in Winterset, Iowa, a fact that makes the past 22 years that much sweeter.

“I’ve enjoyed working here,” he says.

It was just as exciting this time.

Tim Hibdon

Tim and his wife, Cynthia, have five children and five grandkids. They are empty nesters now, which allows them to pursue their love of travel. Of late, they’ve packed up and headed to the Grand Canyon, Gettysburg, Antietam, the Atlantic Ocean, and most recently, the historic Biltmore Estate in North Carolina.

His hobbies include vintage-car shows, gardening and other outdoor activities, being a member of the Civil War Conservation Trust, and ghost hunting. Tim has investigated several haunted locations during the years. “I’ve seen a lot of different things,” he says.

The latter is more than a conversation starter. A published author, Tim’s two books contain elements of adventure, comedy and history, and a touch of the supernatural. He is currently in the process of publishing book No. 3.

From his novels to relating how he has become a two-time recipient of the coveted Pride of the Jersey award, Tim is proud to use his words to entertain and inspire.

“I’m honored to be able to share my story,” he says.
