Put a nutty twist on game day appetizers!

If you’re looking for something a little different to snack on for the Big Game this year, you’re in the right place! Our food studio collected some of our favorite game day recipes and reinvented them with our favorite nuts from the PLANTERS® brand. Whether it’s a classic snack mix, a sweet and salty treat, or a diary-free dip, we’ve got a recipe for it!

Vegan Cashew Loaded Queso Dip

Ingredients

 
3 cups PLANTERS® Deluxe Whole Cashews
1½ cups hot water
3 tablespoons nutritional yeast
2 cloves garlic, peeled
1 teaspoon turmeric
1 teaspoon vegetable oil
8 ounces vegan chorizo
1 (15-ounce) can black beans, rinsed and drained
2 (10-ounce) cans diced tomatoes and green chilis, drained
Hot sauce, to taste

Directions

  1. In blender or food processor, combine cashews, water, yeast, garlic and turmeric. Puree until smooth.

  2. In medium saucepan over high heat, heat oil until shimmering. Add chorizo. Cook, stirring frequently, 10 minutes or until well browned. Remove 2 tablespoons; set aside for garnish.

  3. Add cashew mixture, black beans and diced tomatoes. Cook, stirring, 3 to 5 minutes or until hot. Stir in hot sauce to taste.

  4. Transfer to serving bowl.

    Suggested Garnishes: reserved vegan chorizo crumbles, chopped cilantro, chopped green onions and sliced jalapeno

Roasted Red Bell Pepper Cashew Dip

2 cups PLANTERS® Salted Cashews
2 cups hot water
4 jarred roasted red bell peppers, drained
½ cup water
¼ cup tahini
3 cloves garlic
½ teaspoon kosher salt
½ teaspoon smoked paprika
¼ teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
¼ teaspoon ground black pepper

Directions

  1. Place cashews in medium glass bowl. Cover cashews with 2 cups hot water. Cover bowl; let soak 30 minutes. Drain.

  2. In bowl of food processor, add drained cashews and remaining ingredients. Process until smooth and creamy.

Game Day Cheese Ball

2 (8-ounce) packages cream cheese, at room temperature
2 tablespoons sour cream
2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
1 (1-ounce) package ranch seasoning
½ cup chopped bacon
¼ cup plus 2 tablespoons chopped green onions, divided
2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon hot sauce
1 cup chopped PLANTERS® Mixed Nuts
2 slices white cheese such as provolone

Directions

  1. In bowl of stand mixer, cream together cream cheese and sour cream. Mix in shredded cheese, ranch seasoning, bacon, ¼ cup green onions, Worcestershire sauce and hot sauce.

  2. Place cheese mixture on top of plastic wrap. Mold cheese mixture into a football shape, covering with plastic wrap to help hold shape. Refrigerate 2 hours.

  3. In shallow dish or plate, mix together chopped nuts and remaining 2 tablespoons chopped green onions.

  4. Unwrap cheese ball and roll in nut mixture. Gently press mixture into the cheese ball.

  5. Slice white cheese slices into long, thin strips. Lay them across the cheese ball to resemble a football.

Hot and Spicy Party Mix

9 cups toasted rice, corn, and wheat squares cereal
1 cup mini pretzels
1 cup sesame sticks
1 cup rye chips
1 (10.3-ounce) can PLANTERS® Mixed Nuts
½ cup butter
2 tablespoons soy sauce
3 tablespoons sriracha
1½ teaspoons garlic salt
1 teaspoon onion powder
½ teaspoon smoked paprika

Directions

  1. Heat oven to 250°F. Line 2 large baking sheets with parchment paper.

  2. In large mixing bowl, combine cereal, pretzels, sesame sticks, rye chips and mixed nuts.

  3. In small, microwave safe bowl or glass measuring cup, melt butter. Add soy sauce, sriracha, garlic salt, onion powder and paprika. Whisk until well combined.

  4. Pour half of the butter mixture over cereal mixture. Toss well. Pour remaining butter mixture over cereal mixture. Toss well.

  5. Spread mixture out over two baking sheets. Bake for 45 to 60 minutes, gently stirring every 15 minutes.

  6. Remove from oven. Let sit for 20 to 30 minutes or until completely cooled.

Sriracha Honey Roasted Cashews

3 tablespoons honey
2 tablespoons sriracha
1 teaspoon fine sea salt
1 teaspoon olive oil
½ teaspoon cinnamon
½ teaspoon cumin
½ teaspoon paprika
2 (8.25-ounce) cans PLANTERS® Deluxe Honey Roasted Whole Cashews

Directions

  1. Heat oven to 350°F. Line a large, rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper.

  2. In large bowl, combine honey, sriracha, salt, oil, cinnamon, cumin and paprika. Mix in cashews, stirring to coat. Spread onto prepared sheet. Roast 10 to 15 minutes, stirring every 5 minutes, until caramelized. Cool.
